Opening STC Files
The STC file type is primarily associated with SATO Label Design Tool.
What is an STC file
Label Printer Template: STC files are used as label templates by SATO Label Design Tool (SATO Europe). They define the layout and format for label printers.
SAS and Spreadsheet Files:
Some STC files act as SAS data library files or even as spreadsheets like StarCalc, stored in a compressed (ZIP) container. LibreOffice Calc handles these files (LibreOffice).
Configuration and Project Files:
Other variants serve as configuration files for serial terminals (used by Tera Term), or as project and simulation models for software such as SprutCAM (SprutCAM) and Simio (Simio).
Additional Uses:
Functionality: Each STC file works only with the specific software that created it. Many variants use internal compression (ZIP, GZIP) and may embed other file formats such as JPG or PNG. Always open these files with their original application.
Tips:
How to open an STC file
You need a suitable software like SATO Label Design Tool to open an STC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your STC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a STC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

STC file format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the STC files:
Files with the STC extension are quite widely used. This file type has no uniform or dominant file format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 20% of all STC files start with the bytes AAMVHFSS, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. STC files can be up to 980 KB in size, but are often around 100 KB - 390 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. AAMVHFSS. Such files sometimes refer to label.
- 15% of all STC files have the same signature **COMPRESSED**. They consist of unreadable binary data. STC files can be up to 430 MB in size, but are often around 160 KB - 170 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. S 0 0 0 NO, **COMPRESSED** **COMPRESSED** **COMPRESSED** **COMPRESSED** **COMPRESSED********LIB CONTROL Linux, LIBRARY, wlt1 and SPAN. Files like these have the following tags: data.
All other STC files (65%) have no consistent format, often, for example, ZIP, DOC, UTF-8, Port, STOC, EasyStudio and Project. These files are often connected to stats, back or case. You can get all the details of your STC file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .stc file to view" above.

an stc data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with STC files
- Associate the STC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest STC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SATO Label Design Tool update.
- To make sure that your STC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .STC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
