What is a TPO file?

TPO files mostly belong to Topo! GPS.

This file is used to store data for mapping and positioning. It is mostly used by Topo! GPS software from Topographix to hold GPS mapping data such as geographic coordinates and related metadata. This helps in tracking routes and analyzing outdoor navigation.

Some TPO files also work with Topcon Tools. In these cases, the files keep product order details and data from Topcon Positioning Systems, managing order and configuration records.

How to open TPO files

You need a suitable software like Topo! GPS to open a TPO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Topcon, Checksum, Dealer, ReceiverID, SerialNo, SubmitTime, [Information], Owner=, Email=, Ordernumber, Model=, Universal and Cipher. Files like these are sometimes connected to universal.
