What is a TT file?

TT files mostly belong to Visual Studio by Microsoft. A TT file is a design-time or a run-time T4 text template used to generate program source code for a Visual Basic project created with Visual Studio integrated development environment. A TT text template contains text, variables, directives, and imported libraries required to generate a program. TT-Processor extension for Visual Studio Code can also be used to parse a TT text template for generating Visual Basic program source code. Another type of TT file is a True Type Font used by older versions of macOS. These days, True Type fonts are saved in TTF or TTE files.

How to open a TT file

You need a suitable software like Visual Studio to open a TT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your TT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a TT file directly in the browser:. How to extract texts from TT files or capture a screenshot to PDF, JPG, DOCX, TXT, ...

TT file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. As a file extension, TT isn't very common and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 9% of all TT files use the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes  (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are text files, so they contain words and text. TT files can be up to 100 KB in size, but are often around 1 KB - 27 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as template language="C#", debug, Core, System, assembly name, false, hostspecific, import namespace and true.
• 9% of all TT files save the data in JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The average file size is 11 MB with most files being between 1 MB and 51 MB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: version, type, left, objects, originX, originY, pages, projectData, projectType and interior. The file name WeeklyTemplateDemo.tt is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to tangezine and templates.
