All about UNC Files
The UNC file type is primarily associated with SQLite.
What is a UNC file
- SQLite Database File: These files follow an SQL structure and use the SQLite engine to manage relational data. They can be opened with tools like a SQLite browser. See more at SQLite's website.
- Soil Test Data File: These files store data from unconsolidated undrained triaxial tests. They are used in geotechnical engineering to record soil behavior. More details are available at GeoEngineer.
FilExt.com notes: Check the file header to decide which type is in use. A SQLite file usually starts with 'SQLite format 3'. Adjust the extension if needed and use the proper software to open it.
How do you open UNC files?
You need a suitable software like SQLite to open a UNC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your UNC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a UNC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert UNC files:
- SQLite
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. UNC files are often referred to as SQLite databases because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (Output Folder) by Microsoft CorporationNote: This is a folder extension and not a file extension. The folder name should be USMT2.UNC. The folder itself may be a compressed file but should show up as a folder in Windows Explorer. You can use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" in Windows XP to transfer settings for Microsoft Internet Explorer and for Microsoft Outlook Express. You can also use this wizard to transfer desktop settings, display settings, dial-up connections, and other types of settings. To get to the wizard in Windows XP: Start | Program Files | Accessories | System Tools | Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. This file format is classified as Archive. UNC file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the UNC files looks like this:
The UNC file extension is rarely used and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 50% of all UNC files are based on the well-known SQL file format. An SQL file contains a lightweight SQLite database, widely used in application development for storing application related data. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. UNC files are between 1 MB and 62 MB in size. The file type is a fairly new file format. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as SQLite format 3. The file name export_win32_db_static.db4.unc or export_win32_maps_a0000_char.db4.unc is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to export, maps, static, boss and char.
- 15% of all UNC files have the same signature x0x. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are 27 KB to 44 KB in size, with a median of 33 KB. The files contain the following words: Sample Height, x2x,Boring ID, x3x,Boring Depth, x6x,Sample Moisture, x7x,Sample DD, x8x,Soil Type, x1x,Project, Units, x4x,Sample Diameter,2.875 and x9x,Height/Diameter Ratio,2.1.
All other UNC files (35%) have no consistent format. If you want to find out what your UNC file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for UNC File Extension
a unc database file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with UNC files
- Associate the UNC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database files. Because only the current version supports the latest UNC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SQLite update.
- To make sure that your UNC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .UNC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
