What is a VCN file?

VCN files mostly belong to Vector CAN Database. VCN files are archive containers that hold Vector CAN database data in ZIP format.

How to open VCN files

VCN file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The VCN file extension is not common and mainly uses a special format. The following file formats are most commonly found in VCN files:

• 85% of all VCN files are based on the zip format, that is, a VCN file includes multiple compressed files. The number of files included is on average 10 and ranges from 2 to 80. File names inside are _crosscon.vfs, _defs.vfs, _pool.vfs, _postLoadApp.vfs, _preLoadApp.vfs, VCNINFO.INI, eraseAppl.vfs and sc_texts_defs.vfs. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The average file size is 430 KB with most files being between 91 KB and 2 MB in size. Files like these have the following tags: arfiff, apfiff, ncdrive, apitq and asfic.
• 7% of all VCN files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "Diagram" at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 550 KB and 1 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Diagram, HWInput and V1.500. Files like these have the following tags: chiller.
