What is a VEX file?

VEX files mostly belong to iBwave Design. iBwave component database: This VEX file is primarily used by iBwave Design to store network design components. It employs a .NET‐based structure that holds detailed project data directly related to network and telecom design.

VEXcode projects: Some VEX files are used for VEXcode IQ and VEXcode VR environments. They encapsulate robot code and project settings for use in robotics programming.

Hydraulic models: A portion of these files contain Danish water data used in hydraulic simulations with MIKE 11 and MIKE URBAN.

How to open a VEX file

You need a suitable software like iBwave Design to open a VEX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. VEX file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Such a .NET object may contain functions and data like settings, images or videos. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are 29 KB to 2 MB in size, with a median of 170 KB. The file type is very recent. The keywords CompatibilityVersion, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6e1e9d5f649d6be5, DataVersion, DateTime, SchemaVersion, iBwave.iBwaveLibrary.DB.DBHeader and NVULibrary are typical for these files. The file name MECA-all-prods-2020-06-01.vex is characteristic of these files. Files like these have the following tags: components, prods, meca, database, antennas, release and mimo.
10% of all VEX files use the same file format, which have the signature ./___ThIsisATemPoRaRyFiLE___.json. The content also consists of readable text fragments, which can be viewed with the help of a text editor. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 25 KB. The files contain the following words: ./___ThIsisATemPoRaRyFiLE___.json, 000000, 000666 and 000644. The file name 9791-button-template.vex is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to template and button.
