All about VRS Files
The VRS file type is primarily associated with VisionRecorder.
What is a VRS file?
- Vision Recording File: This file stores recording of visual data. It is used by the VisionRecorder application. If your file was created as a vision recording, use the matching viewer to play back the video content.
- Virtual Reality Scene: In this use case the file holds a scene designed for VR display. It may use the JFIF image structure internally to store panoramic images. A VR Player tool can be used to view these. For more details, visit Enscape3D.
- VitalSource Book: Some VRS files contain eBook content formatted as VitalSource Books. These are handled with applications like VitalSource Bookshelf. More information is available at VitalSource.
FilExt.com tip: Check file details or metadata to verify its origin; the correct application depends on how the file was created.
How to open VRS files
You need a suitable software like VisionRecorder to open a VRS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VRS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VRS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

VRS file extension format:
To view or edit VRS files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the VRS files:
VRS is not a commonly used file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 30% of all VRS files use the same file format, which have the signature VisionRe. They consist of unreadable binary data. VRS files can be up to 1 GB in size, but are often around 85 KB - 240 MB. The file type is very recent. The files contain the following words: VisionRe, cordVRS1, device_serial, camera_id, device_type, data_layout, name and DL:Configuration:1:0. An example of a file name is recording.vrs or Demo.vrs. Files like these have the following tags: movie and video.
- 6% of all VRS files use the popular JFIF file format. JFIF is short for JPEG File Interchange Format. It is a bitmap graphic that uses JPEG compression. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 20 KB to 47 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as JFIF, NvdW, eyJhY and tExif. Files like these are about room, dining and living.
The remaining 64% of all VRS files are files with no common format, often e.g. WordPerfect Video Resource, XML, JetDB, Btrieve, product and Test. Files like these are sometimes linked to mast, scenario, frames, vrsservice, sonnets or recordable. If you want to find out what your VRS file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with VRS files
- Associate the VRS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open multimedia files. Because only the current version supports the latest VRS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available VisionRecorder update.
