What is a WID file?

WID files mostly belong to SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence. * WID files are mainly used as Web Intelligence Documents in environments running SAP BusinessObjects. They hold report queries, layouts, and configuration settings used in business intelligence applications.

When used in BI, these files store and structure data for analytical reports.

They sometimes implement storage methods linked to the WinDev Hyper File Database system.

A minor set of WID files define Windows installer dialogs and other installer data using Microsoft Compound File formats.

How to open a WID file

You need a suitable software like SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence to open a WID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature).
