Opening an XSF File
The XSF file type is primarily associated with XSF Manager.
What is an XSF file?
In some cases the file is an XML Shareable Format file. This type is a compressed XML file (often using GZIP) used for configuration data such as Lync Server settings managed by XSF Manager or Microsoft InfoPath.
In other instances the file is a Xion Skin File. Here the file holds skin or theme data for applications like Virtual DJ. It can also be seen used as a legacy audio format from Playstation systems.

Another use is as a X3D Scene File or a Character Studio skeletal format. Such files store 3D scene or skeletal data for animation and modeling and are used by platforms such as IMVU and XSI Softimage.

There are cases where the file is an XML or XNA Skeleton File providing character skeleton data, with references to Microsoft InfoPath or XSF Viewer.

Other uses include a crystal structure file for scientific work with XCrySDen and even files that serve as an Extreme Networks switch configuration containing network settings.

FilExt.com tip: If you own an XSF file, check the source or the program that created it. Sometimes the file can be viewed in a text editor if it is in XML, but often you need the specific application to properly open or modify its contents.
How to open an XSF file
You need a suitable software like XSF Manager to open an XSF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XSF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XSF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

XSF format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the XSF files:
XSF is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. The file formats most commonly found in XSF files are:
- 30% of all XSF files use the popular GZIP file format. Gzip is a compressed archive file format. Gzip (GNU zip) is only capable of compressing a single file. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 47 KB to 2 MB in size, with a median of 260 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Such XSF files store data about microsoft, windows, local, unix, entsvcs, resrc, osdotools, celesiogroup, rolls and ryce.
- 15% of all XSF files start with the bytes CSF, which are crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The average file size is 3 KB with most files being between 200 bytes and 45 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Root. Such files sometimes refer to root.
All the rest of the XSF files (55%) have different formats, the following 10 formats exist: Cal3D Xml Skeleton File, ZIP, crystal, Module, INFO and FileHeader. Tagged as density or voip. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your XSF file!
