What is a YZ file?

YZ files mostly belong to YAC. YZ files are file archives which are compressed through the YAC program, also known as the Yet Another Compressor program.

• Main Usage: The YAC program that creates YZ files is an open source file compressor and decompressor which was initially only developed for MS-DOS machines, and utilizes an improved version of the LZ+Huffman compression algorithms, similar to LZH files which utilize a variation of this compression algorithm. This algorithm holds a similar compression rate to that of the GZIP algorithm.
• Compression: The compression algorithm utilized to compress YZ files is a combination of both the LZ compression algorithm as well as the Huffman compression algorithm. Namely, the Huffman compression algorithm is a statistical data compression technique which gives the user a reduction within the mean code length utilized to represent the symbols in the alphabet. This is different to LZ compression, as the LZ compression algorithm takes advantage of large quantities of data within a file and maps certain data sets to short codes, which allows the file to be inherently compressed when the process is repeated throughout the contents of the file.

How to open a YZ file

You need a suitable software like YAC to open a YZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The following filename is common: [beta-] _SCRIPT LDOE AUTOMATIC ALL INCXLUSIVE.lua_(23-04).Yz or Avrolly_Mapple_Rush-LOM(GAMESPEED).lua_(28-03).Yz. Files like these are sometimes connected to script, menu, avrolly, gamerz, mapple and rush.
