What is a ZST file

ZST files mostly belong to ZSNES by ZSNES Team. ZST is the extension for a file created using the Zstandard data compression algorithm. Zstandard is a real-time lossless compression algorithm that provides a high compression ratio. It was developed by Yann Collet at Facebook. The Zstandard library is open-source. ZST is purely a compression format and does not allow archiving or encryption. ZST provides flexible compression settings. The compression speed provided by ZST is faster than Deflate (used by ZIP files) when the compression ratio is set to low. If the highest compression settings are used, the compression ratio is high enough to be compared to 7Z files which employ the LZMA algorithm.

• Other Uses: The ZST extension is also associated with the save state files for ZSNES, which is an emulator for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System game console. The file stores game progress information so that the game can be closed and resumed later from the same state.

How do you open ZST files?

You need a suitable software like ZSNES to open a ZST file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
