What is an A2R file

A2R files mostly belong to Agilent MicroLab Creator.

FTIR Data Files: A2R files in most cases store data from FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy. These files are produced by Agilent systems and are used by software like Agilent MicroLab Creator. They record spectral information needed for chemical analysis. A smaller group of A2R files acts as disk images for the Apple II computer. They contain the stored structure and contents of a disk and require an appropriate Apple II emulator to open and run.

How to open an A2R file

You need a suitable software like Agilent MicroLab Creator to open an A2R file. To view or edit A2R files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the A2R files:

The file type with the extension 'A2R' predominantly uses a uniform format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 90% of all A2R files have the same signature 00 00 00 03 A0 36 27 00. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. A typical file size is 30 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The keywords admin are typical for these files. These files are often associated with sample, export, syrup, biochar and powder.
• 7% of all A2R files belong to A2R disk image. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are on average 22 MB in size and range from 14 MB to 27 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. Applesauce v1, INFO$ and STRM. Files like these are sometimes connected to disk, side and apple.
