AFM file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our analysis of the AFM files produces the following result:
AFM is rarely used as a file extension and mainly uses a special format. The file formats most commonly found in AFM files are:
- 80% of all AFM files are associated with Outline Font Metric. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are often between 4 KB and 36 KB in size. The file type is very old but is also used today. The keywords StartFontMetrics 2.0, Comment Copyright, Comment Creation, Comment Creation Date, FontName, FullName, Comment UniqueID, FamilyName, Adobe, Systems, All Rights Reserved, Weight, Incorporated and Rights Reserved are typical for these files. An example of a file name is Helvetica.afm.
