Opening an AGI File
The AGI file type is primarily associated with AGI32.
What is an AGI file?
They are mostly used as lighting design files that store simulation data. These files use a zlib compression library internally and are handled by products like AGI32. This type of file holds detailed information for lighting analysis. For more details on lighting design applications, visit Lighting Analysts.
Other uses include:
FilExt.com note: Use file signature tools to check if the file header indicates zlib or ZIP compression, helping identify the correct software to use.
How to open AGI files
You need a suitable software like AGI32 to open an AGI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your AGI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a AGI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert AGI files:
- AGI32
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. AGI files are often referred to as AGI32 data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Asterisk (Gateway Interface File) by Digium, Inc.Asterisk is an extensible telephone system and is a complete IP PBX (private branch exchange) for businesses. It is open source software. Generally, the AGI file is a Perl script. This file format is classified as Source Code.
AGI file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our examination of the AGI files comes to the following conclusion:
The AGI file extension is not widely used. Such a file is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 60% of all AGI files use the popular zlib file format. Zlib is a compressed archive file format that supports several different data compression algorithms. zlib is also a crucial component of many software platforms, including Linux, macOS, and iOS. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 1 MB in size and range from 770 KB to 7 MB. The file type is relatively new. Files like these have the following tags: lighting, site, floor, street, calcs, light, plan, contractor, tennis, tunnel and court.
- 8% of all AGI files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one AGI file. The 2 to 2 compressed files are called manifest.xml. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are on average 960 bytes in size and range from 760 bytes to 1 KB. The files contain the following words: manifest.xml, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <desc />, <manifest>, name and uuid.
All other AGI files (32%) have no consistent format, often, for example, Intergraph. These files sometimes refer to arena. Just click the "Choose your .agi file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your AGI file is.
Technical Data for AGI File Extension
an agi data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with AGI files
- Associate the AGI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest AGI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available AGI32 update.
- To make sure that your AGI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .AGI file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
