What is a BCS file

BCS files mostly belong to SAP Business Client. A BCS file is not a single, uniform file type but is tied to its creator’s application. In many cases, it is a SAP Business Configuration Set used within SAP ERP environments. These files typically use UTF-16 (LE) encoding to store essential settings and parameters that are loaded by the SAP Business Client software.
Some BCS files use the RIFF framework so that they hold audio data. In these cases the file is part of Sonic Foundry tools or is linked to a BioWare sound format.
Other variations are compiled binary scripts. For example, they can be control system files or configuration scripts used by game engines such as the BioWare Aurora Engine or in visual novel platforms like KiriKiriZ. Additionally, certain game titles employ BCS files as compressed game saves (using GZIP) – seen in games like Battle Chasers: Nightwar or Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition. A few files also follow the MIDI format to store style data for Yamaha instruments such as the PSR-3000.

How do you open BCS files?

You need a suitable software like SAP Business Client to open a BCS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. BCS file extension format:

To view or edit BCS files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. The BCS file extension is not found very often and includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 25% of all BCS files are based on the well-known UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). They consist of unreadable binary data. Most of these files are 13 KB to 1 MB in size. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: DATE and VERSION   1. The file name ZAE_VAT_SETTINGS_S4.bcs is typical for these files. Such files are related to settings, edoc and zaif.
• 15% of all BCS files start with the magic bytes #BCSþÿL, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 370 KB. The files contain the following words: #BCS. A common filename is HUF.bcs or HUM.bcs.
