What is a BNP file?

BNP files mostly belong to Imaging Edge by Sony. BNP filename extension is used to store files containing information (metadata) about video recordings created with Sony digital camcorders. A BNP file contains information used to display video clips on the camera (not on a computer). Such data might include the date a video was taken and the number of recorded videos. They are usually named similar to AVIN0001.BNP and located in the AVF_INFO folder of video recorders such as HDR-SR5 and cameras in the HandyCam series. Some Nikon cameras also associate BNP files with DSCN (Digital Still Capture) data. The BCML Nano Patch required by recent versions of mods to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild video game are stored in files with BNP file extension. Such BNP files contain graphics packs for modifying the game's user interface.

How to open BNP files

You need a suitable software like Imaging Edge from Sony to open a BNP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 7 KB to 13 MB. The file name qnando_zelda_mod.bnp is characteristic of these files. These files are often associated with switch, qnando and zelda.
