What is a CNA file?

CNA files mostly belong to CadnaA.

CNA files are specialized data containers. Most of them are used as CadnaA noise data files in a Microsoft Compound format that holds project data for noise analysis.
These files combine different streams of information like simulation settings and measurement data into one container.

• CadnaA Projects: These files work with CadnaA software from DataKustik. They store detailed noise simulation projects and environmental data.
• UnityFS Assets: A smaller group of CNA files use UnityFS format. They serve as asset containers for game data, such as AI Shoujo character details, and are handled with Unity asset editors.

How do you open CNA files?

You need a suitable software like CadnaA to open a CNA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The CNA file extension is not common and predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in CNA files are:

• 70% of all CNA files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The app name of CNA files is CadnaA. The file contains several sections with names like Creation, State, Accounting and WinCATS_V1.xx. The files are often between 45 KB and 24 MB in size. The file type is old but is used even today.
• 7% of all CNA files save the data in UnityFS file format. UnityFS is short for "Unity File System". This Unity Game Engine package is a bundle of several compressed Unity assets. Each asset may contain 2D texture, text resources, music files, scene objects, etc. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. CNA files can be up to 850 KB in size, but are often around 140 KB - 840 KB. The files contain the following words: UnityFS, `.resS and 2018.4.21f1.
