Opening a CND File
The CND file type is primarily associated with ControlDraw.
What is a CND file?
How to open a CND file
You need a suitable software like ControlDraw to open a CND file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CND file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CND file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CND file format:
To view or edit CND files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the CND files:
CND is not a commonly used file extension and includes a lot of different file formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all CND files start with the bytes $Common ID , which are crucial for this file format. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 7 KB to 14 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as $Common, Model, Suffix = " ", Volume = 1, 1, Vendor = "GRAPHTEC Corporation", Format = "Ver1.00, Option = None and UserSel = 1. A common filename is 20180601.CND or 20180601_UG.CND.
- 10% of all CND files have the same signature 07 1A 00 02 00. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are 7 KB to 45 KB in size, with a median of 17 KB.
The remaining 75% of all CND files are different files with different signatures, often, for example, DOC and SEM. Sometimes used for type. If you want to find out which format your CND file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .cnd file to analyze".

How to solve problems with CND files
- Associate the CND file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open 2d model/diagrams. Because only the current version supports the latest CND file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the ControlDraw manufacturer website after an available ControlDraw update.
- To make sure that your CND file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
