Opening a CWR File
The CWR file type is primarily associated with SolidWorks Simulation.
What is a CWR file?
Other use cases:
- HTML Receipt: Some CWR files are structured in HTML. They contain receipt data from the AIChE website and can be viewed with a web browser or Crystal Reports Viewer.
- PDF Document: A minority of these files are saved in PDF format. They are used for musical works registration and should be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
FilExt.com note: Use the appropriate application for your file. For simulation files, consider using SolidWorks software; for HTML, a web browser; and for PDF, a PDF reader.
How to open CWR files
You need a suitable software like SolidWorks Simulation to open a CWR file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CWR file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CWR file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert CWR files:
- SolidWorks Simulation
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CWR files are often referred to as SolidWorks Simulation data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Crystal Reports (Report) by Crystal DecisionsCrystal Reports lets you transform data into interactive content, integrate it into .NET, Java and COM applications and share it via portals, Microsoft Office documents and wireless devices.
- Wrapcandy (Candy Wrapper) by Wrapcandy.comMake Personalized Candy Wrappers, bubbles, suckers and more. CWR file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our analysis of the CWR files produces the following result:
The CWR extension is quite commonly used. The file itself mainly uses a defined CWR format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 70% of all CWR files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The file contains sections that are named something like GEN, TimeStamp, MAS, OUT, RunState, ELF, LCD, STE, EFF and StudyType. Most of these files are 2 MB to 75 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. These files are attributed to static, study, simulation, assembly, assem, xpress, analysis and plate.
- 20% of all CWR files are based on the well-known HTML file format. HTML is short for HyperText Markup Language. It is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. CWR files can be up to 1 KB in size, but are often around 740 bytes - 1 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <head>, <html>, </script>, <link rel="stylesheet" type="te, <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript"> and crv_config = { "needFallbak": false, "lang": "en", "indicatorOnly": true };. Some examples of file names are viewrpt.cwr. These files are often associated with aiche, receipt, registration, membership, conference, invoice, reciept and aich.
All other CWR files (10%) have no uniform format, often, for example, WrapCandy template and PDF. The category is thermal, beam, stress, steel, bracket, chassis, frame, drop or load. If you want to find out what your CWR file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for CWR File Extension
a cwr compound simulation container file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CWR files
- Associate the CWR file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open compound simulation container files. Because only the current version supports the latest CWR file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SolidWorks Simulation update.
- To make sure that your CWR file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CWR file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
