What is a DSI file

DSI files mostly belong to WinDS. A DSI file extension is usually a multi-layered image set created using (or intended for use in) DAZ Studio, a free 3D modeler and renderer for Windows and Mac computers. The DSI file is a composite of image layers combined into a single material file that can then be applied to an object's material zone via the Surfaces tab in DAZ Studio. R-Studio, a cross-platform data recovery tool stores hard disk scan results in DSI files. The now outdated Fryrenderer software also used the DSI file extension to store double-precision spectral images generated from FRY source files. Another obsolete use case of the DSI file extension is with the DESI labelling system software which was used to create/print phone numbers on classical Windows operating systems.

How to open a DSI file

You need a suitable software like WinDS to open a DSI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DSI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DSI file directly in the browser:. The files are often between 130 KB and 4 MB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. WSVI. An example of a file name is backup_000_001_0000.dsi or backup0000.dsi.
