To open this file type, a required software must be installed. Without it you only see a Windows message "The following file cannot be opened" (Windows 7) or "How do you want to open this file?" (Windows 10) if you double-click the file. There click on "More apps" and choose a suitable software to view such files on your PC or from email attachments.

The E01 file type is primarily associated with 'EnCase' by Guidance Software, Inc.. EnCase Enterprise (EE) is a network-enabled, multi-platform enterprise investigation solution directed toward information security professionals, computer incident response teams (CIRTs), eDiscovery auditors and forensic examiners. This is the first file produced by the Encase image program. Any additional files will have the extension incremented by 1; i.e., example.E01, example.E02, example.E03, etc.
