What is an EDE file?

EDE files mostly belong to ConceptDraw PRO. EDE files are not a single universal format but are used by several specialized applications to store distinct data types.

• Diagram Files: These files hold vector‐based diagram data. They use an XML structure and are managed by programs such as ConceptDraw PRO (also known as EDraw Max drawing files). For more details, visit ConceptDraw.
• Embroidery Design Files: In some cases, an EDE file stores embroidery patterns and may also be used as or contain GPS data (for example, Magellan RoadMate data). These are handled by software from Edifact Editor. More information can be found at Edifabric.
• Agronomic Research Data: Some EDE files encode field trial data using UTF-8. They are used by agronomic research tools, such as those by ARM Field Manager, to store trial and management data.

How to open an EDE file

You need a suitable software like ConceptDraw PRO to open an EDE file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EDE file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EDE file directly in the browser:. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the EDE files looks like this:

An EDE file covers a large number of different file formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in EDE files:

• 4% of all EDE files use the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The average file size is 8 KB with most files being between 2 KB and 24 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>, <Item>, Angle V, Height V, Transform, Version, Width V, GPinX V and Shape Type.
• 4% of all EDE files have the same signature ÑÜK. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. EDE files are between 87 KB and 95 KB in size. A usual file name is MPRG8x26_fh.ede. These files are attributed to mprg.

The remaining 92% of all EDE files are files with no common format, the following 5 formats exist: Ensoniq EPS EDM disk image and UTF-8. These files are often connected to data or config.
