All about EGL Files
The EGL file type is primarily associated with Eagleye.
What is an EGL file?
These files are not meant to be opened with generic applications. Instead, the official Eagleye software is required to decrypt and view the data.
How do you open EGL files?
You need a suitable software like Eagleye to open an EGL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EGL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EGL file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EGL files:
- Eagleye
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EGL files are often referred to as Eagleye encodeds because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- EagleCheck (Encrypted Database Reference File) by Washington State Gambling CommissionEagleCheck Version 2.1 uses *.EGL files instead of *.XML files. This file format is classified as XML.
EGL file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the EGL files:
The EGL file extension is not common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 60% of all EGL files start with the bytes **EAGLEYE ENCRYPTED**, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The file size is in the range of 21 KB to 12 MB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. **EAGLEYE ENCRYPTED**. Such files are related to xlsx and pptx.
- 6% of all EGL files use the same file format, which have the signature BB 02. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 39 KB in size and range from 9 KB to 53 KB. The following filename is common: embergen-2020-06-01.egl.
The remaining 34% of all EGL files are files with no common format, the following 6 formats exist: XML, GZIP and pcxLib. The category is graded or list. If you want to find out what your EGL file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with EGL files
- Associate the EGL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open encrypted data files. Because only the current version supports the latest EGL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Eagleye update.
- To make sure that your EGL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EGL file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
