Opening EPA Files
The EPA file type is primarily associated with Vabi EPA Software.
What is an EPA file
Some EPA files contain data related to Ensoniq PARIS audio or compressed bitmap graphics. These files work with software built on the KiriKiri engine and may include multimedia elements.
Another use is as a project container for the Explain Everything platform. Such files store project information and are meant to be opened using the Explain Everything application.
How do you open EPA files?
You need a suitable software like Vabi EPA Software to open an EPA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EPA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EPA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

EPA file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the EPA files:
The EPA file extension is rather rarely used and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 35% of all EPA files are based on the zip format, i.e. an EPA file contains several compressed files. The number of files included is on average 1 and ranges from 1 to 5. File names inside are project.xml. If you want to see the included files and images, simply rename the file extension to .zip and double-click it. A typical file size is 22 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. project.xmlUT. These files can be linked to project, vabi, energielabel and woning.
- 15% of all EPA files belong to Pajamas Adventure System bitmap. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. Most of these files are 22 KB to 1 MB in size. Such files sometimes refer to title and base.
The remaining 50% of all EPA files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. Award BIOS logo bitmap, pbze and CombiStats. Sometimes used for canvas, first or imported. If you want to find out what your EPA file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.

How to solve problems with EPA files
- Associate the EPA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open archive container files. Because only the current version supports the latest EPA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Vabi EPA Software update.
- To make sure that your EPA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
