What is a FISH file?

FISH files mostly belong to Fish shell. Fish Shell Script: Certain FISH files are plain text command scripts for the Fish shell. You can open these with any text editor or run them in a terminal using the Fish shell.

Game Save / Image File: Other FISH files are structured as a ZIP container holding data in a PNG image format. These serve as save files for Pro Cycling Manager. To inspect such files, try an archive tool to look inside the compressed data.

Game Engine Data File: A different usage assigns the FISH extension to Xenko game engine data files, sometimes linked with FMOD Studio. These files contain binary data used in game development and require specialized tools to open them.

How to open FISH files

You need a suitable software like Fish shell to open a FISH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. FISH file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. The FISH file extension is rarely used and covers a large number of different file formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in FISH files:
