All about FLG Files
The FLG file type is primarily associated with Puppy Linux.
What is an FLG file
- Main Use: Puppy Linux uses FLG files to label specific partitions that can be used later to scan or boot from. These files are referenced by the operating system when the computer starts or performs file system checks. The files also pop up when the computer undergoes a sudden shutdown and are automatically removed once the system successfully restarts or finishes checking the file system files. FLG linux system files usually have the file names FSCK.flg or FSCKME.flg.
- Other Uses: FLG file extension is also associated with IsoPuzzle, an application used in the recovery of information from worn out or incompletely burned CD/DVD disks or their image files. The FLG file consists of a list of sectors that can be recovered from the optical disk, in an ISO file. The FLG file contents serve as a marker of the recoverable sections of the image so that they can subsequently be combined into another disc image. FLG files are also used in the HP system recovery tool pre-installed on certain HP systems. FLG stands for the system recovery FLaG file. The data in the FLG files is used by the installer to determine the information to be used when program functions are run.
How to open FLG files
You need a suitable software like Puppy Linux to open an FLG file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FLG file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FLG file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert FLG files:
- Puppy Linux by Puppy Linux Team
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. FLG files are often referred to as Puppy Linux data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- IsoPuzzleIsoPuzzle is a program for recovering data from damaged or corrupted disk images, such as a CD or DVD device. The program uses FLG files to record recoverable sectors within the disk image that can be used to reconstruct parts of the original image. The program is obsolete and no longer supported. This file format is classified as Data.
- MicroSim PCBoard (log file) by Cadence Design SystemsMicroSim PCBoard was a program developed by Cadence Design Systems for creating and editing printed circuitboard designs. The FLG file was used to log changes to the board layout. The program is obsolete and no longer supported by Cadence Design Systems. This file format is classified as Data.
- System Recovery by HPSystem Recovery is a program developed by HP which is preinstalled on computers from the same company and is used to restore the system when needed. The program uses FLG files to store information used when reinstalling the operating system. This file format is classified as Data. Related links: System Recovery Documentation
FLG file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the FLG files is as follows:
FLG is not a common file extension and does not have a uniform file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 9% of all FLG files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "HP Recovery Partition " at the beginning. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are on average 24 bytes in size and range from 24 bytes to 24 bytes. The keywords HP Recovery Partition are typical for these files. A usual file name is _CNBRP2.FLG or _CNBRP.FLG. Files like these are sometimes connected to cnbrp.
- 6% of all FLG files are based on the zip format, multiple files are compressed and combined into one FLG file. Primarily one file is included. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are often between 720 bytes and 7 KB in size. The files contain the following words: Bull.
All other FLG files (85%) have no consistent format. Tagged as english, reversed, flag, wallpaper or polish. If you want to find out which format your FLG file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .flg file to analyze".
Technical Data for FLG File Extension
an flg flag file is a special file format by Puppy Linux Team and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with FLG files
- Associate the FLG file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open flag files. Because only the current version supports the latest FLG file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Puppy Linux Team manufacturer website after an available Puppy Linux update.
- To make sure that your FLG file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FLG file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
