Opening FO Files
The FO file type is primarily associated with XMLSpy.
What is a FO file
- Main Usage: A FO file or form stores data like - what a page looks like and how the contents of the page appear or how the text takes position. This data is stored in standard XML format. This data is then used by FO processors to position the content on the page within the boundaries set by the FO file.
- More Information: Files saved in this format are available online as well as offline and features like form validation and security guarantee can be incorporated quite easily. This data can be integrated with any database that supports XML.
How can I open a FO file?
You need a suitable software like XMLSpy to open a FO file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FO file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FO file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

FO file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Below you will find our evaluation of the FO files:
The FO file extension is rarely used and mainly uses a defined FO format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 80% of all FO files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 870 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0", xmlns, CanonicalizationMethod Algorithm, SignedInfo, http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig, http://www.w3.org/2001/10/xml-exc-c14n, encoding, UTF-8, root xmlns, Signature Id, http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format and <?xml version="1.0"?><dsig:Signature. The file name form.fo or fastqc.fo is characteristic of these files. Files like these are about formular, zadosti, zadost, vyplneno, dotace, dotaznik, platnost, povoleni, extract and okruh.
All other FO files (20%) have no consistent format. If you want to find out which format your FO file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .fo file to view".

a fo form file is a special file format by Altova and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with FO files
- Associate the FO file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open form files. Because only the current version supports the latest FO file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Altova manufacturer website after an available XMLSpy update.
- To make sure that your FO file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .FO file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
