All about GPF Files
The GPF file type is primarily associated with Microsoft Group Policy Editor.
What is a GPF file
- Group Policy Files: These files store system settings and policies. They are created by tools like Citrix GPF Generator and Microsoft Group Policy Editor.
See details at Microsoft Group Policy Help. - GPS Device Profile Files: Used to store configuration data in XML format for GPS devices.
Reference Garmin BaseCamp for more information. - Foot Scan Data Files: Hold foot pressure or scan measurements. These files are used in analysis applications such as those by GPDB and FreeStep.
- Game Data Files: Employed by games like Master of Magic to hold game parameters and saves.
Check out Master of Magic on GOG. - AutoDock Grid Parameter Files: Define grid settings for docking simulations in AutoDock Vina.

Visit Cricut Design Space. - Raith Lithography Files: Contain pattern data for nanofabrication processes using the RAITH 150 Two Beam Pattern Generator.
More info at RAITH. - Geosoft Project Files: Used to manage geophysical or geospatial data in Geosoft Oasis montaj.
See Geosoft Oasis montaj for details.
FilExt.com notes: If you have a GPF file, the file's purpose depends on its origin. Some are configuration files for system policies while others hold project or profile data. To open one, use the associated application or examine the file header (for example, a CAP or XML structure) to determine its type.
How to open GPF files
You need a suitable software like Microsoft Group Policy Editor to open a GPF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GPF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GPF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert GPF files:
- Microsoft Group Policy Editor
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. GPF files are often referred to as Microsoft Group Policy Editor settings because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Ragnarok Online (Gravity Re-Packed File) by Gravity Co., Ltd. & Lee MyoungjinThe game's client immediately, when run, reads from the GPF to achieve information stored within it, which then further dictates how the client is to connect to the Ragnarok server. The server's IP, sprites for the game, and other important things relating to the game are stored directly inside of the gravity pack file. This file format is classified as Game.
GPF format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the GPF files:
GPF is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in GPF files are:
- 20% of all GPF files store the data in the CAP file format. CAP files are compressed archives. The first bytes (the signature) are 'MSCF' (short for MicroSoft Cabinet File). The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. The files are 8 KB to 33 KB in size, with a median of 23 KB. The file type is a fairly new file format. The keywords MSCF and policies.gpf are typical for these files. The file name Rsop.gpf or Citrix-Gpo-0-HDXSite - UserPolicy.gpf is characteristic of these files. Such files sometimes refer to hdxsite, citrix, policy and user.
- 10% of all GPF files have the same signature GPDB. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 700 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as GPDB, SATZd and FMMK. Such files are related to hendriks.
All other GPF files (70%) have no consistent format, often, for example, XML, Master, PATTERN and npts. Files like these are sometimes linked to data, profile, plot or gerber. You can get all the details of your GPF file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .gpf file to analyze" above.
Technical Data for GPF File Extension
a gpf multi-purpose configuration file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with GPF files
- Associate the GPF file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open multi-purpose configuration files. Because only the current version supports the latest GPF file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Microsoft Group Policy Editor update.
- To make sure that your GPF file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .GPF file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
