Opening a K File
The K file type is primarily associated with Unity Editor.
What is a K file
For example, some K files are UnityFS asset files that act as containers for game data in the Unity engine.
Others are used to store PDF documents that can be opened with a PDF Reader. You may visit the PDF Reader webpage for more details.
Some K files serve as input files for engineering simulations; they can be LS-DYNA keyword files or input decks used in finite element analysis.
A few files are linked to diagnostic systems such as the Komatsu Diagnostic System, storing machine data.
There are also K files that hold image data in formats like EPS, JPEG, or TIFF, which might be processed with software like Adobe Photoshop or used by systems from Konica Minolta (Konica Minolta webpage).
Other uses include game data files (for instance, skill or ability data for games like Kenshi – see Lofi Games), compressed ZIP archives opened with WinZip (WinZip webpage), and even specialized game configuration files like the .kkrieger file from the Quake engine.
FilExt.com note: This variety means that the purpose and functionality of a K file depend entirely on its origin and the software that created it. To determine how to open your K file, check for internal markers (by opening it in a text editor) or consider the context in which you received the file.
How can I open a K file?
You need a suitable software like Unity Editor to open a K file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your K file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a K file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert K files:
- Unity Editor
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. K files are often referred to as Unity Editor games because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Desktop Color Separation Specification Black Layer(usually an EPS file)
- IRIS (Editor Format File) by eurobrailleIRIS is a computer Braille portable with from 20 to 40 characters using the Windows EC operating system.
- NRJ Live File
K file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the K files:
The K file extension is used very often and covers a large number of different file formats. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 15% of all K files save the data in UnityFS file format. UnityFS is short for "Unity File System". This Unity Game Engine package is a bundle of several compressed Unity assets. Each asset may contain 2D texture, text resources, music files, scene objects, etc. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 100 KB in size and range from 3 KB to 820 KB. The file type is very recent. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as UnityFS and 2018.4.32f1. The file name anim.k is characteristic of these files. Such files are related to prefab, avatar, herobase, body and 3D model.
- 10% of all K files are based on the well-known PDF file format. PDF is short for Portable Document Format, is a file format to present documents, including text formatting and images, in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 6 KB and 4 MB in size. These files can be linked to person-related data.
The remaining 75% of all K files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. ZIP, TIFF, JPG, PNG, DYNA, KEYWORD, OUTPUT, Adobe and nova. Tagged as page, document, string, grade, dyna, chinstrap, material, occupant, vicisz, model, nofit, steel, thums or head. You can get all the details of your K file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .k file to analyze" above.

How to solve problems with K files
- Associate the K file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest K file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Unity Editor update.
- To make sure that your K file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .K file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
