What is a KSD file?

KSD files mostly belong to KiriKiri. KiriKiri Engine Files: KSD files are most often linked to the KiriKiri engine and are used as game save or scenario files in visual novel games. They record game progress and narrative choices and can use text encodings like UTF-16 (LE).
Encrypted Data Files: Some KSD files are built on a PNG structure and hold encrypted information. These files are used by KeepSafe or similar software to secure data.
Audio Sample Files: In other cases, a KSD file may contain Korg sample data. Tools like KSD2WAV help convert these files into common audio formats. There are also variants for Native Instruments used in Kontakt sound libraries.
Database Files: A small group of KSD files work as Jet database files that run on the JetDB engine. Such files can be viewed with database software like Microsoft Access (Access).

How to open a KSD file

You need a suitable software like KiriKiri to open a KSD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your KSD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a KSD file directly in the browser:.
