What is an LFS file

LFS files mostly belong to Mimecast. LFS files are most often used as part of the Mimecast Large File Storage system. They rely on an XML structure to hold metadata, file pointers, and other data needed to handle large files efficiently in that environment.
These files are not designed for everyday user edits. Instead, they act as structured data containers that are processed by dedicated software. In some cases, an LFS file may also be used as a game data file, although that usage follows a different internal organization.

How to open LFS files

You need a suitable software like Mimecast to open an LFS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LFS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LFS file directly in the browser:.
