Opening LU Files
The LU file type is primarily associated with Lua interpreter.
What is a LU file?
How to open a LU file
You need a suitable software like Lua interpreter to open a LU file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LU file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LU file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

LU file extension format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Below you will find our evaluation of the LU files:
As a file extension, LU isn't very common and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in LU files:
- 35% of all LU files start with the bytes 1B 4C 75 61, which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. LU files are between 1 KB and 420 KB in size. The file type is very recent. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. LuaQ. Examples of file names are main.lu or config.lu. Files like these are sometimes connected to data, classes, town, libs, optimized, battle, list and maps.
- 7% of all LU files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "01 70 73 33 04 10 00 00 27 66 86 F2" at the beginning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 3 KB and 6 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as ITCRAP, characters_shared_resources.lu and naughtybear_vram.lu. The following filename is common: naughtybear.lu.
All the rest of the LU files (58%) have different formats, the following 7 formats can be found: LUH, LUIS and year. Often described as quest, items, vram, alien, phone, dialogs, bottom or desert. You can get all the details of your LU file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .lu file to analyze" above.

a lu source code script is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with LU files
- Associate the LU file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open source code scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest LU file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Lua interpreter update.
- To make sure that your LU file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
