Opening a NUM File
The NUM file type is primarily associated with Text Editor.
What is a NUM file?
Use Cases:
If the file is plain numeric data, open it with a text editor or spreadsheet program. If it is an image file, try using an image viewer or editor.
FilExt.com note: Check the file header with a hex editor if initial attempts to open the file are unsuccessful, as the structure may vary by application.
How do you open NUM files?
You need a suitable software like Text Editor to open a NUM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NUM file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NUM file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

NUM file format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the NUM files:
The NUM file extension is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 40% of all NUM files have the same signature 1 3. These files contain text and words as well as binary data. The average file size is 120 KB with most files being between 120 KB and 850 KB in size. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as adjpron, misc, prep, verb, 1 36358.94, 10 11150.72 and 2 27792.36. Some examples of file names are 5000lemma.num or lemma.num. Such files are related to words.
- 3% of all NUM files have the same signature +---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+-. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are 2.2 KB to 2.2 KB in size, with a median of 2 KB. The keywords +---+---+--- are typical for these files. A common filename is practice3.num.
The remaining 57% of all NUM files are different files with different signatures, frequently e.g. JPG, ZIP and fYm. Files like these are sometimes linked to insitu, serial, rotatee, config, sample, sqtp or wine. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your NUM file!
