FilExt.com note: Depending on the content, use HDF5-compatible viewers or the specific players and viewers recommended by the data source. For further details, visit the OMX project page.
How to open OMX files
You need a suitable software like HDFView/OMX Viewer to open an OMX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OMX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OMX file directly in the browser:. OMX file format:
To view or edit OMX files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the OMX files:
The OMX file extension is rarely used and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 55% of all OMX files save the data in HDF5 file format. HDF5 is short for Hierarchical Data Format version 5. It is an open source file format for storing and organizing large amounts of data. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are on average 11 MB in size and range from 23 KB to 100 MB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: TREE. The file name demand.omx or example.omx is typical for these files. Files like these are sometimes connected to skims, trips and total.
- 10% of all OMX files are associated with Ots Media Library. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 7 KB to 12 KB in size, with a median of 8 KB. The keywords _OtsMX!_ are typical for these files.
All other OMX files (35%) have no consistent format, often e.g. OMAX Make tool path data. Tagged as imported, data or time. If you want to find out which format your OMX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .omx file to analyze".
Technical Data for OMX File Extension
an omx data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with OMX files
- Associate the OMX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest OMX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available HDFView/OMX Viewer update.
- To make sure that your OMX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OMX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
