Opening an OS File
The OS file type is primarily associated with Android.
What is an OS file?
How to open OS files
You need a suitable software like Android to open an OS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OS file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OS file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

OS format details:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our analysis of the OS files produces the following result:
The OS file extension is used very often and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 85% of all OS files lack a uniform signature. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are often between 36 bytes and 40 bytes in size. The file type is relatively new. The following filename is common: .profig.os or profig.os.
- 4% of all OS files store the data in the config file format. A configuration file is used by computer software to store settings. It consists of a text-based content with a structure and syntax comprising key–value pairs for properties, and sections that organize the properties. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are 200 bytes to 330 bytes in size, with a median of 260 bytes. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as SCHRANK, SCHRANKINTERN, [OSAS], OSID, REGISTER, DOKUMENTINTERN, REGISTERINTERN, DOKUMENTTYP=Dokument and [Dokument].
All other OS files (11%) have no consistent format. You can get all the details of your OS file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .os file to view" above.

How to solve problems with OS files
- Associate the OS file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open application data files. Because only the current version supports the latest OS file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Open Handset Alliance manufacturer website after an available Android update.
- To make sure that your OS file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .OS file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
