What is a PHB file

PHB files mostly belong to DevelNext. PHB files can represent different types of data. Their meaning depends on the application that created them.
For example, one common use is as a compiled PHP file. In this case the file holds PHP bytecode produced by tools such as DevelNext or Bcompiler. These files are not plain text and are meant to run under a PHP execution environment rather than be edited manually.
Another use of the PHB extension is for a photo album file. These files often follow the Microsoft Compound format and bundle images and metadata. Software from companies like PhotoBase or PhotoImpact is designed to open and manage these collections.
A third role is to hold phylogenetic tree data used in bioinformatics. They store tree structures that display evolutionary relationships. Such files are produced by software like CLC Genomics Workbench (more details) or ClustalW (view here). The tree data may follow formats similar to PHYLIP.

How to open a PHB file

You need a suitable software like DevelNext to open a PHB file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. PHB file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. In the following you will find our evaluation of the PHB files:

PHB is not a common file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 25% of all PHB files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "1C 9A 4A 92 01 33 53 D3" at the beginning. These files are not plain text files, so they also contain binary data. PHB files are between 3 KB and 16 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. module, Unknown and class. An example of a file name is App.phb or Async.phb.
• 20% of all PHB files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. Compound document files are used to structure the contents of a document in the file. It is possible to divide the data into several streams, and to store these streams in different places in the file. In this way compound document files support a complete file system inside the file, the streams are like files in a real file system, and the sections are like subdirectories. The first 8 bytes of the CFB format are D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The unique Windows component object identifier is f90e7260-9545-11d0-87a0-444553540000. Sections and streams in the file are named Contents. PHB files are between 120 KB and 4 MB in size. Files like these are about person-related data.
