What is a PNT file?

PNT files mostly belong to AutoCAD by Autodesk. PNT filename extension is associated with project files created with Panther, a programming language and library of tools for creating interactive GUI programs and games. A PNT project file contains assets, sounds, motion commands, logic, or game information used to create interactive games and small programs. PNT is also the filename extension of saved pen table plotting data created by Creo, a computer aided design software. AutoCAD and Civil 3D CAD and BIM design software use survey points (x, y, z coordinates) saved in PNT files. PaperPort, a scanner and OCR software for editing and saving scanned documents, saves its thumbsview data in PNT files. Themes for questions displayed by Popnoggin educational software have PNT filename extension. MacPaint, a discontinued digital painting software for Mac operating system, saved black and white bitmap images in PNT files.

How to open PNT files

You need a suitable software like AutoCAD to open a PNT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PNT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PNT file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PNT file format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the PNT files is as follows:

PNT is a very common file type and does not have a uniform file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

All other PNT files (65%) have no uniform format, such as PNG, XML and JSON. Sometimes used for sail, player, pawn, triple, flag, female or metal. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your PNT file!

a pnt survey point is a special file format by Autodesk and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with PNT files

  • Associate the PNT file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open survey points. Because only the current version supports the latest PNT file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Autodesk manufacturer website after an available AutoCAD update.
  • To make sure that your PNT file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .PNT file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
