Opening a PQX File
The PQX file type is primarily associated with Power BI Desktop.
What is a PQX file
How do you open PQX files?
You need a suitable software like Power BI Desktop to open a PQX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PQX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PQX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. PQX files are often referred to as Power BI Desktop plugins because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Power Quest Drive Image Index
PQX file extension format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below you will find our evaluation of the PQX files:
The PQX file ending is mainly used by one program with a specific format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 90% of all PQX files use ZIP compression, i.e. a PQX file contains several compressed files. Such a ZIP file contains 10 to 50 files with names like Diagnostics.pqm, [Content_Types].xml, resources.resx, \_rels\.rels, \package\, \package\services\ and \package\services\digital-signature\origin.psdsor. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The average file size is 46 KB with most files being between 17 KB and 120 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. _rels/.rels. A common filename is MicrosoftCallQuality.pqx. Files like these are sometimes connected to capacity, cdata, connector, metricsces and signed.
- 2% of all PQX files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "00 00" at the beginning. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are 43 KB to 6 MB in size, with a median of 4 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: !"#$%&'()*+,-./0123.
All other PQX files (8%) have no consistent format. Files like these are sometimes linked to mongodbatlasodbc, auditor, exact, data, online, analytics or service. You can get all the details of your PQX file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .pqx file to analyze" above.
