PS1 file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the PS1 files is as follows:
An PS1 file includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 30% of all PS1 files save the data in UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files contain text and words, not binary data. A typical file size is 2 KB. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Files like these have the following tags: update, install, create, script, reset and vmaf.
- 5% of all PS1 files have the same signature 23 20. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are often between 830 bytes and 12 KB in size. The files contain the following words: # Copyright, 2008, Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved, Import-LocalizedData -BindingVariable and utility. These files can be linked to network.
The remaining 65% of all PS1 files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. Source, UTF-16 (LE) and UTF-16 (BE). These files sometimes refer to windows, powershell, user, diagnostics, activate, convert, config, deploy, enable, import, adobe, azure, build, power or task. If you want to find out which format your PS1 file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ps1 file to view this image".
