What is a PS1 file

PS1 files mostly belong to PowerShell by Microsoft. A PS1 file is a shell script written in PowerShell programming language and used to automate tasks on a system. It contains a sequence of commands similar to what you will find in a CMD or BAT file on a Windows machine. PowerShell command interpreter can execute a PS1 script. It can be edited with a code or text editor such as Visual Studio Code or Notepad. Another type of PS1 file contains data used by the file Indexing service in a Windows environment. PS1 is also the filename extension of a PostScript Type 1 font.

How to open a PS1 file

You need a suitable software like PowerShell to open a PS1 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The remaining 65% of all PS1 files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. Source, UTF-16 (LE) and UTF-16 (BE). These files sometimes refer to windows, powershell, user, diagnostics, activate, convert, config, deploy, enable, import, adobe, azure, build, power or task.
