What is a QCT file?

QCT files mostly belong to Memory-Map, Dark Messiah, Minitab.

Memory Map Navigation Data: This QCT file is used to store navigation data for map applications. It holds coordinates and markers that the Memory-Map software uses to help you move around a digital map. For more details, visit the Memory-Map website.

Game Asset Data
Another type of QCT file contains data for game characters or items. This file is used by game engines such as those in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Without the game software, the file appears as binary data. See more at Ubisoft.

Quality Companion Template
A different QCT variant is a compressed file (using ZIP compression) that stores a Quality Companion Tree or Template. This file is used in quality control applications by Minitab. It can be opened in Minitab or with a ZIP utility after renaming the file extension. More information is available on the Minitab site.

How do you open QCT files?

You need a suitable software like Memory-Map, Dark Messiah, Minitab to open a QCT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your QCT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a QCT file directly in the browser:. QCT file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the QCT files looks like this:

The QCT file extension is rarely used and includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 60% of all QCT files have the same signature ÿÕ#. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are 18 KB to 140 MB in size, with a median of 34 MB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today. Such QCT files store data about memory, south, alpes, crypt, provence, haute, north, ouest, area and east.
• 10% of all QCT files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "$keyvalues { " at the beginning. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. A typical file size is 3 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: $keyvalues, Life, "entity_data", "prop_data", "dexterity", "strength" and Npc. Files like these have the following tags: sword and wakizashi.
