What is a RET file?

RET files mostly belong to CaseWare IDEA.

To view or edit RET files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. • 25% of all RET files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one RET file. RET files contain from 3 to 80 compressed files. • 10% of all RET files start with the magic bytes 02RETORNO01COBRANCA, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. The files are on average 4 KB in size and range from 800 bytes to 54 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: COBRANCA, RETORNO, BRADESCO and BANCO. CB20180601.RET is a typical file name.
