What is an SH3D file

SH3D files mostly belong to Sweet Home 3D by eTeks. Files with SH3D extension are 2D and 3D home design layout files created using Sweet Home 3D, an interior design software for creating 3D home design models. Contents of SH3D files include user-customizable 3D models and 2D views of a home. Such files are typically used to render the placement of furniture in a home compressed into a single archive. The basename of the entry file in an SH3D archive is home and it contains a Java serialization of the Home class which describes the home's design. Some versions also have an Home.xml entry file which allows the SH3D files to be saved in JavaScript instead of Java. Other files in an SH3D 3D home design layout archive file include ContentDigests and images.

How to open an SH3D file

You need a suitable software like Sweet Home 3D from eTeks to open an SH3D file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SH3D file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SH3D file directly in the browser:. Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file.
