Opening an SN File
The SN file type is primarily associated with SuperNova ERP.
What is an SN file
SN files are structured XML files used to store employee attendance data. They are produced by SuperNova ERP and contain information such as check-in times, check-out times, and employee identifiers.
These files are not meant for casual editing. Instead, they are used by the ERP system to integrate attendance records into HR and payroll processes. You can view the file with any XML viewer or a plain text editor, but care is needed when making changes.
Key details as outlined by FilExt.com include:
- XML format with defined tags for attendance events
- Integration with HR systems
- Designed for reliable data exchange within the ERP framework
How to open an SN file
You need a suitable software like SuperNova ERP to open an SN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your SN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a SN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert SN files:
- SuperNova ERP
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. SN files are often referred to as SuperNova ERP data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Dispatch (Sabena Timetable File) by Scott Andrew BortonDispatch allows you to view airline routes overlaid on a map. If you like, you can set Dispatch to show only those routes which should currently have airplanes in the air (based on your system clock), and Dispatch will display the approximate progress of those airplanes along their scheduled routes.
- Pg4uw (Serialization File) by Elnec s.r.o.Pg4uw is a common control program for Windows for all ELNEC's ROM programmers. Generally this will be found as a double extension to the project file (project.prj.sn). Related links: Ph4uw and Programmer User Manual [PDF]

SN file format:
To find out what program is needed to open SN files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the SN files looks like this:
SN is seldom used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 20% of all SN files are based on the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. The files are on average 350 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 1 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0", col name, encoding="utf-8"?><database name='EmployeesExport'><table, table name, AttForDate, Attendance and IMEI.
- 10% of all SN files use the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The file contains several sections which are named like PreviewPicture, Data and Header. The file size is in the range of 30 KB to 210 KB.
All the rest of the SN files (70%) have different formats, frequently e.g. Load. Sometimes used for finger, mobile, client or parktime. Just click the "Choose your .sn file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your SN file is.

How to solve problems with SN files
- Associate the SN file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open structured xml data files. Because only the current version supports the latest SN file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available SuperNova ERP update.
- To make sure that your SN file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .SN file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
