What is a TBZ file?

TBZ files mostly belong to BZIP2 by Julian Seward. The TBZ extension is used on files which have been previously compressed using a TAR format and then converted to a TBZ file after being compressed again using the BZIP format. After the file is compressed into an archive, the BZIP compressing format further reduces the disk space it uses, making the archive easier to transfer. Archives that are compressed twice usually are very large files which require this method of compression in order to be reduced to a more manageable size.

• TAR files are several files compressed into an archive much smaller in size, without changing the file system information it may include such as user permission or modification dates.
• BZIP Files are files compressed into archives using a combination of the Run-Length with the Burrows-Wheeler encodings as a compression algorithm.

Opening a TBZ file: TBZ files are supported on most operating systems. Using decompressing utilities that are available on these systems such as Apple Archive Utility for MacOS, WinZip for Windows, 7-Zip for Linux and File Viewer for Android will enable the user to read, write or extract all the information inside the archives.

How to open TBZ files

You need a suitable software like BZIP2 to open a TBZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. • 30% of all TBZ files internally utilize the RAR file format. RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. Most of these files are 2 KB to 770 KB in size. The keywords Rar! and vbs0 are typical for these files. Files like these are about proceso, oficio, acta, documento, radicado, remisorio, fiscal and penal.

All other TBZ files (20%) have no uniform format, the following 6 formats can be found: 7z, GZIP, ZIP and Sar. They are often associated with lectura, cargos, judicial, comparendo, adjunto, juzgado, orden or cita.
