What is a THEME file?

THEME files mostly belong to ColorOS by OPPO. THEME is the file extension used by themes in Microsoft Plus!. Microsoft Plus! is an operating system enhancement software for Windows that has been discontinued. It is an add-on pack that was launched for different versions of Windows. Features in Microsoft Plus! include desktop themes, screen savers, utilities, and games. Desktop themes in Microsoft Plus! customize the appearance of the user interface and modify other settings in the operating system. Some of the settings they apply include customizing the desktop wallpaper, cursors, and sounds. Desktop themes have the THEME file format. Due to a bug, the full file extension may not be saved, and the theme file may have the THE extension. If the theme file has the THE extension, it it not recognized by the system and does not show up in the themes list. The file extension has to be renamed to THEME in order to use it. THEMEPACK and DESKTHEMEPACK are newer file formats for desktop themes in Windows.

How to open a THEME file

You need a suitable software like ColorOS to open a THEME file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your THEME file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a THEME file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
