Notes about the TPQ file extension:
Incorrect file associations could be the result of underlying issues within your PC system. As such it is highly recommended to scan your PC for invalid registry entries
, unused processes and other unfavourable system settings to identify slowdown issues.
The TPQ file type is primarily associated with 'TOPO!Pro' by National Geographic Maps. TOPO! Pro for ArcGIS is a set of extensions that add functionality to ESRI's ArcGIS. The Multi-layer extension enables ESRI GIS users to import USGS topographic maps, hillshading, and digital elevation models (DEMs) into ArcMap projects. Image file sizes are minimized using a tiling scheme and integrated image cataloging. For example, a full color quad with hillshade is under 1 MB in size. The map images are stored in a proprietary file format called .TPQ. ArcGIS recognizes this file as a raster image format, similar to a .TIF or .JPG format.
