TRK file extension format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the TRK files:
The TRK file extension is quite widespread and is primarily used by a single program. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 90% of all TRK files use the same file format, which have the signature 00 00 7B 22 6C 6F 63 61 74 69 6F 6E 22 3A 22 68. They consist of unreadable binary data. The average file size is 12 MB with most files being between 9 MB and 15 MB in size. The file type is very recent. The files contain the following words: beatport-content-production-track-mp4-aac-256k, https://storage.googleapis.com, location, GOOG4-RSA-SHA256, X-Goog-Algorithm, X-Goog-Credenti, GoogleAccessId, beatport-gke-us- and bp-api-production.
- 1% of all TRK files use the ZIP format, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one TRK file. TRK files contain from 7 to 30 compressed files. File names inside are always mission, options, theatre, warehouses, \Config\, \Config\View\Server.lua, \Config\View\SnapViewsDefault.lua, \Config\View\View.lua, \Scripts\, \Scripts\World\GPS_GNSS.lua, \Scripts\World\birds.lua, \l10n\, \l10n\DEFAULT\dictionary, \l10n\DEFAULT\mapResource, \track_data\ and \track\. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. A typical file size is 2 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Config/View/Server.lua. 2020-06-01_rv2arx.trk is a typical file name.
The remaining 9% of all TRK files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. Tracker data and GPS track log. Sometimes used for track or filet. Just click the "Choose your .trk file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your TRK file is.
