How to open a VGX file
You need a suitable software like OriginLab Origin to open a VGX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VGX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VGX file directly in the browser:. VGX file format details:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our evaluation of the VGX files is as follows:
The VGX file extension is rather rarely used and covers different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 45% of all VGX files use the ZIP format, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one VGX file. The 4 to 15 compressed files are called JobFile.bin, JobFile.gltf, lights.json, metadata.json and modelViewsData.json. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. A typical file size is 9 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: JobFile.gltf and .version. Such VGX files store data about export.
- 40% of all VGX files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, which is also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This is a complex container format used by earlier versions of Microsoft Office and other Windows programs. Compound files begin always with signature bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1 (ÐÏࡱá). The file contains several sections with names like Contents. VGX files can be up to 560 KB in size, but are often around 13 KB - 69 KB. Experiment.VGX is a typical file name.
All the rest of the VGX files (15%) have different formats. Just click the "Choose your .vgx file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your VGX file is.
