What is a VGX file?

VGX files mostly belong to OriginLab Origin. VGX files are not a single type of file; they come in several forms.

Graph Data Files: Many VGX files use the Microsoft Compound format. In these cases, they act as containers for graph data. They are often created by OriginLab Origin and may be referred to as OriginLab Graph Files or Veeco data files.

Scene Files: Some VGX files are stored as a ZIP archive. This type holds scene information and is used by applications such as VizExe. In some situations these files are also known as Vectorworks design file formats.

How to open a VGX file

You need a suitable software like OriginLab Origin to open a VGX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening.
