Opening VSF Files
The VSF file type is primarily associated with Vault Client.
What is a VSF file?
It may also be a Visual Style File that defines the look and feel of an application built with DevExpress VCL styles. For more details, visit DevExpress.
Another common use is as a visual novel save file associated with tools like Visual Studio Form and the KiriKiri Visual Novel Script (KiriKiri Z/2). Documentation for related projects is available at Visual Studio documentation.
Other roles observed include:
- Voice Stream File: Likely holds audio stream data.
- VICE emulator snapshot: Used by the VICE emulator to save and restore the state of an emulated system (VICE emulator).
- Vehicle software file: Employed in automotive diagnostics by tools such as Vector CANape/CANoe.
- Executable file (ELF format): In rare cases, the file follows the ELF standard for executables. More on ELF can be read on Wikipedia.
FilExt.com note: This multiplicity means that to open your VSF file, identify its source or the application that created it, then use that specific program to view or manage the file.
How to open a VSF file
You need a suitable software like Vault Client to open a VSF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VSF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VSF file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

VSF file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the VSF files:
The VSF extension is quite commonly used. The file itself includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 35% of all VSF files start with the magic bytes version: 1 0, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are often between 15 KB and 2 MB in size. This file type is based on cutting-edge technology. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as version: 1, vdEJlZm, HgIBAQwTYWV, jMTI, MBoMCW and MjEyMjA. Such VSF files store data about xlsx, form, docx, notice, statement, report, records and stmt, and frequently comprise personal data.
- 20% of all VSF files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "VCL_STYLE " at the beginning. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 42 KB to 87 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as VCL_STYLE 2.0x. Examples of file names are Skin.vsf or Carbon.vsf. These files are attributed to amakrits, graphite, windows, dark, blue, amethyst, kamri, metro and aqua.
All other VSF files (45%) have no uniform format, the following 9 formats exist: Vice Snapshot File, ViPlay Subtitle Format, XML, VSF and Hex. These files are often connected to document, escalayer, reboot, americanexpress, statements, labyrinth, accounts, security, dconfig, hyundai, sensors, service, banner, bodies, golden, hentai, style, amex, data, rela or relg.
