All about VTD Files
The VTD file type is primarily associated with Iris Sysinfo.
What is a VTD file?
They include:
- SysIris/Template data files: In environments like Iris Sysinfo and Visual FoxPro, these files store system details and design templates.
- Business data files: Some VTD files are produced by Money S3 and used with Visma Business to record financial information. More details can be found at Money S3 resource.
- Tax form data files: TaxAct uses this format to record tax form information. Visit TaxAct website for further details.
- Dictionary files: Visual Thesaurus employs VTD files to manage its spell check dictionaries and synonym lookups. For more, see Visual Thesaurus.
- Measurement data files: Certain VTD files capture technical measurements, such as VibTrend analysis data and magnetometry readings from devices like the VSM-LV (used with MicroSense VSMControl).
FilExt.com note: Each VTD file’s structure is proprietary. You must use the original software for proper access and editing.
How do you open VTD files?
You need a suitable software like Iris Sysinfo to open a VTD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your VTD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a VTD file directly in the browser:. VTD file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the VTD files:
As a file extension, VTD isn't very common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 45% of all VTD files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "03 00" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are 340 bytes to 840 KB in size, with a median of 25 KB. It is a modern file type. The following keywords are characteristic: acName, adTimeIns and anUserIns. The file name tHE_SetItem.vtd or tHE_FinReportItem.vtd is characteristic of these files. Files like these are about item, subj, order, contact, report and address.
- 15% of all VTD files start with the bytes ENCDEF, which are crucial for this file format. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are 1 KB to 13 KB in size, with a median of 2 KB. The files contain the following words: ENCDEF. A usual file name is $TAXFORM.vtd.
The remaining 40% of all VTD files are files with no common format. Often described as data or bitsat. If you want to find out which format your VTD file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .vtd file to analyze".

How to solve problems with VTD files
- Associate the VTD file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest VTD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Iris Sysinfo update.
- To make sure that your VTD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .VTD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
